Rash & Pain

by maid101, Feb 14, 2008 11:18AM
I had a kidney stone attack on January 1, 2008, and the doctor installed a stent.  I am 80 yrs, and have developed numerous allergies to food, medications, materials over the past 8 -10 years.  Since this January 1, 2008 procedure, I have been suffering from a very itchy body rash.  I have seen the  doctor twice during the past 5 weeks, and there seems to be nothing he can do to help.  I feel that my body is not tolerating this stent. Is it possible that I am also allergic to the material of which the stent is made?   The doctor is planning to remove it in 4 -5 weeks, but I don't think I can go that long.
I itch all the time, I feel like crying, I don't want to go out, I don't want to see anyone.

Hello!

I'm so sorry you feel so bad.
I think that perhaps your body is reacting to the stent installation. It could be an allergic reaction... but, did the rash and all the pther problems start exactly the day you had the stent installed? I suggest you visit your doctor and tell him that the stent bothers you very much and can't stand it and if he tells you that it's nothing or you have to be patient etc., I suggest you visit another doctor and take a second opinion.
Perhaps your docs can order a series of blood tests to see if it's actually an allergic reaction, or an autoimmune prob.

Best of luck and hope you feel better soon! :)

Hi,

I commend you for being proactive about this. I understand how frustrating this can be. Ask your physician if a referral to an allergist-immunolgist is needed at the moment. If this is indeed an allergic reaction then you have to be co managed by a specialist and the stent has to be removed as soon as possible. Were you properly assessed along this line ?

Another thing is was your BUN Creatinine levels followed up? Do you know the levels now? You may need supportive therapy for the itchiness. Do open your lines of communication with your physician. A cold compress gently applied to the area may alleviate the itchiness. Considering your kidney problem, always consult with your physician first before taking any medications.
