The commonest side effects of Buspirone are headaches, lightheadedness, nausea and vertigo. Buspirone does not have any serious side effects. This is purely from my clinical experience.
The maximum dose you can give her is 30 mg/day. This is the maximum recommended dose for her age.
I can not comment upon acupuncture, but I guess, she can try this therapy along with Buspirone.
