Hey Teak

Hey Teak.
My nodes are swollen. I just read in the forum where you state that nodes in HIV are PAINLESS, as in, they do not hurt at all. Is this absolute? Mine are definitely not painless, they hurt all the freaking time causing all sorts of pain and tears. They are in the tops of my legs near the groin, in the elbow pit, on my wrist, on my shoulders and collarbone, and behind my knee, and I guarantee I can feel each one :) Ok, not each one, but I can definately feel them.

For all people, not just myself, can the lymph nodes in Primary infection, or early infection be painful because the body is still trying to fight the losing battle? Or they just don't hurt anyone, ever, period?

Thanks

neutrophils are usually elevated due to a bacterial infection or inflammation of some kind.  sometimes your white blood cells will be elevated too.  of course, there other things that can cause an elevated neutrophil count.

it is very unlikely HIV would cause in an increase in neutrophils...we already know that isn't your problem.

i'm not very familiar with Tulsa and the knowledge of the docs.  i'm sure they are doing their best to give u the care u need.  as stated earlier, push for a biopsy, hopefully it will be neg and give you additional relief.

i'm assuming u haven't had any additional exposure since june/july?

no, not a concern with my husband. We were on a break :) Yes, I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's not a "small" city compared to others, but HIV isn't common, and the doctors here admit to their lack of knowledge on the disease.

I haven't had the IGG IGA or IGMs, but my CBC is compeletely normal, except my neutrophils are high.

::::::head asplode!:::::: so much going on, so likely not HIV, But I feel at home here :)

i'm assuming your exposure was not a concern you had with your husband?  i don't recall you entire story.

do you live near a city that can give you additional medical help if needed.  you said you went to labcorp for bloodwork...was this local or did you travel?

you can consider having IGG, IGA, IGM (Immunoglobulins) test, CBC (assuming they did this), and others.

Thank you so much!
I fully expected them to send me to an oncologist for a biopsy even though my sed rate wasn't elevated, etc. Then the ID doc said that when lymph nodes react to infection and inflamation, a biopsy isn't warranted. I think I'll ask my PCP on Monday what he thinks about it. The nodes are even showing up on x-rays - they're clearly there, the sex was in June, symptoms were in July then they went away and then returned in November and have been there every since... so it really doesn't sound like HIV anyway, but it's hard to scratch the fear that they are missing it because I'm a married little momma in a small town.

i would consider getting a biopsy of your nodes.  i'm certainly not looking to scare you. i'm just trying to give some advice.  if you have truly had swollen glands for months a biopsy would be indicated.

my father is a pathologist and believe it not, i have a lot of experience in the healthcare industry.  some people question me because i have been worried sick myself for over 3 mos and ask some questions that would indicate i have OCD.  well, they are right i have developed OCD but it doesn't make me ignorant.  this doesn't change my background and the knowledge i have from being around my father a lot, graduating with a degree in the field of health science, and working in medical sales.  no this clearly doesn't make me a doctor...not even close.  but, i know my father would suggest a biopsy to rule out other things.  swollen glands for months isn't hiv it could possible be something else you need to treat.

bottom line, if your doc really thinks they are swollen then i would get it done.  you should have additional blood work completed as well outside of HIV tests...this clearly isn't a concern anymore.  heck, you had a DNA test after 5 mos...you are neg.

just insist on other tests outside of HIV, please.  i will wish you the best and hope everything is fine. again, i'm not looking to scare you in any way.  i'm thinking of your best interest.

I didn't, as said before, the ID doc ran a CT scan, they can tell that they are reacting, just none are out of proportionately swollen compared to other swollen ones so they are holding off on biospy, because they feel it is best to not biospy if there is active infection. however, they are sending me to a rheumy because of the swelling.

Hey Alienshadow? I hate to remind you that you are also on the forum a lot. And while I am not one to cause chaos, I really don't take kindly to you being rude to me for hanging out on common ground. Most of the time I appreciate reading your posts, but over the past week or so, you've not been Mr. Chipper. If you don't want to read my posts, then dont - no one forces you to open them. You have choices!

You read right. Swollen lymph nodes caused by ARS are not painful. Another thing you cannot self diagnose yourself with swollen lymph nodes.
