HIV Clinic, open cut

by jasonsmall, Feb 14, 2008 08:16PM
I went to get my 12-week HIV test at the free clinic and it came back negative. Afterwards I looked down and noticed several deep cuts on my fingers from work (construction) and I started to freak out about all of the things I touched in the clinic (specifically a magazine on my seat in the hiv-test-results-waiting room, also clipboard, pens, pencils). I started to think about all the people who touched them before me. Can someone tell me if I am overreacting? These are deep cuts on my fingers and I obviously don't remember putting my hands on anything I recognized as blood-- you just never know. Any thoughts would be great.

i've been heading down the same road and it is OCD.  i know i have it and evaluate everything too much...questioning cleanliness of docs hands before touching equipment, etc.  i'm sure you are not normally like this either.  i think a traumatic event that makes us worry about hiv or whatever causes a heightened sensitivity to things that aren't risks.  you were definitely not at risk.  hiv wouldn't survive in the environment long and you would see blood.  there is absolutely no worries.
