Has anyone taken Stadol Nose Spray for Pain Relief?

by s.mcm, May 03, 2002 12:00AM
Has anyone taken Stadol Nose Spray for pain relief?  I used it for 3 years and became totally addicted even though the drug manufacturers claimed (at first) that it was a non addictive drug.  I had to be hospitalized for withdrawal. I was wondering if anyone had any side effects after the use was discontinued.  I find my memory is shot and I am only 45.

thanks

regardless to the type of opiate and the way in which it is administered or taken, snorting, eating, shooting, spraying..... all of us have gone through what you are experiencing. There are tons of side affects INCLUDING memory loss, however, I truly believe, its not really memory loss. I think that all of us while being addicted are always high and always in this cloud of smoke, we never think straight and we don't pay attention to anything(you might think you do when your high, but you don't) anyway, the point is, you don't remember because you were high. I have noticed since I have been sober, I remember pretty much everything. Does that make sense....?? Without the drugs, the cloud is gone and you can think clearly, you are more aware, therefor you remember everything much better. In anycase, keep posting, you will find so many different point of views, all of which will be different, but helpfull non the less. Good luck, stay positive. You will do it!!!

GWH is right about all of us going through what you are. I'm only 32 and have memory loss, too, though. It's not as bad as when I was using, but it's still there. However, when people ask me about stuff that happened when I was using, I draw a blank. As your brain neurotransmitters repair themselves, I think the memory loss will get much better, but ask your doctor. I will never remember the stuff that happened when I was using, but it is getting better as far as the daily stuff now goes. You will also have other stuff to deal with, such as the cravings and depression, possibly, but that will ease too. Good luck and keep posting. Tracy

Back when I was working in the Dental office(where IT all began) lol We had a patient that was so addicted to it, she called like weekly begging for it, years later I saw her in the Pharm trying to get it filled. I always thought at the time shes just like me, even though The DDS and staff used to make fun of her.

Hey Friends, keep me in your thoughts and prayers for next thurs I am having my total hip replacement. I know I can seem selfish at times but I really do care about what each and everyone one of you is going thru and all the things you have shared.

thanks for your comments.  I have been off the Stadol now for 3 years and my loss of memory ,even for current things, is still very bad.  The Dr. says it is just stress , age and lots on my mind.  But you are right,  during my "drug days" everything is a fog.  I dont remember much that went on during those 3 years.

tks again

A neurologist placed me  on  Stadol NS in late 1993 for vascular headaches.  I had never taken drugs before this time.  He continued presribing it for me for 4 years, the last 2 years, I was taking a bottle per day.  Snorting in the way it is ingested because it is a nasal spray, hince Stadol NS.  You can also get it in an inj form.  They did not schedule stadol ns, until a doctor's son died from an overdose.  Many people who started on the stadol ns became addicts.

It may take some time for the fog to lift.  Sometimes, I think addicts are like square pegs when the world is full of round holes.  We just do not fit into every catagory as others.

There is a class action suit against stadol ns.  You might check into it.  The internet will inform you of some attorneys taking clients for the suit.

Good Luck.  You can make it through the disruptive physical symptoms.

I have not seen this forum so dead in a long time~!!

Where is everyone?

MrMicheal? You seem to have a great deal of knowledge about opiates~~ Perhaps you can answer this question:

Which is more "Powerful"

A. Oxycontin 40Mgs 3 times per day

B. Morphine sulfate IR 30Mgs 3 times per day

Ther reason I ask is that My Aunt was on the above mentioned dose of OXY, and was still able to function well-- as in taking care of her house, herself, and general life issues. However, her Pain specialist switched her to the Morphine sulfate, and she's practically in a vegitative state 24 Hours a day! I was under the assumption that OXY was the most "Powerful" opiate milligram for milligram available. Is it possible that she's just more sensitive to the Morphine?

Anyhow, If you have an Idea, I'd like to know your opinion! (Anyone is welcome to put thier 2 cents worth in!)

~~~~Thanks~~~~
Anybody notice that Dr. Steve hasn't posted any answers in over 2 months?
Where are you Dr. Steve?
Actually, as far as the opiates that chronic painers are prescribed, fentanyl has the distinction of being the strongest.  It is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine.  The strongest is sufentanyl at 1000 times the strength of morphine.  That is used in hospitals for anesthesia and pain in ob cases and other painful procedures.  The brand name is Sufenta.  The fentanyls are definitely the strongest.  She may be just very sensitive to morphine.  Morphine 30mg ir is equal to about 20mg of oxycodone.  One thing that might come into play is that the morphine is going into her system all at once.  A good suggestion would be for her to go to ms contin or oramorph sr.  That way, it would be released gradually and would be less of a jolt to her system.  As far as total opioid in a 24 hour period, she is now getting less than she did with the oxycontin.  Now that I think of it, she would probably do better with a different opioid all together.  But, I would say that the immediate release morphine should be canned for sustained release.  What specifically is happening to her?  What type of side effects?  Some opioids have differing side effect profiles.  A little more info about her would be helpful.
to celebrate my mother-in-law's birhday in another cow town further
up the dirty old river.
jess: let's try to have coffee soon. the troubles your aunt is
having are somewhat disturbing (to say the least). anyhow perhaps
we can come up with something less centered in opiates to help!
Good morning, kip.  This is a beautiful and hot day on the MS Gulf Coast.  I'm hitting the countryclub on the gulf in Gautier today.  After I feed the girls, we will head out to the pools and fresh air.  Fishing is good for it has not rained in about 21/2 weeks.
I have to water the plants, othewise they'd all swiver up to  nothing.
Hope you are enjoying the summer time also.  Send us some more of your writing.  I like creative writing and music, but I am an artist myself.  When I can't put words to things, I can draw or paint like a madwoman.  I still have both ears. VanGogh is one of my favories due to the texture and colors as well as chosen material.
Don't leave me now.
Hey, Skip!
I think that coffee sounds like a great idea! Where do you want to go? Most of the Village inns/dennys have pretty crappy coffee, so if you know of anywhere thats got some decent java just name it, and I'll be there! How does Sunday after 11:00 a.m. sound? I go to AA Sunday morning meeting in Papillion, and am free after that.
P.S. It's not that bad of a day!
To: any info on 5htp?
im almost a month clean taking the receipe and have seen people mention the 5htp and was thinking of adding it .
I was looking for any information about it and what kind of results others were have with taking it.
thanks to all and i hope everyone is doing well on this
wonderful sunny spring day. peace and keep on chugging.
Don't drink too much coffee, all.
To anyone new to this fourm, welcome and stick around and read all the post. There is a lot of great information on how to get clean and stay clean, along with plenty of info on dealing with the symptoms of withdrawl and how to get through it.
The people here offer so much support and information.
When i found this fourm a month ago i was a mess and was full of a lot of fear about the 15 pills(perc's ,vike's ,hydo's) i was taking , I thought for sure i was going to die,and that i was
hopeless.
I have learned so much in a month , i truly am grateful.
This is coming from an addict that was clean in NA for 14 years ,
up untill 3 years ago untill i had to take pain med's from the doctor for shoulder operations. the pain med's got out of controll
some where in the 2nd year, I crossed a line started taking to much and then when the dr. stopped prescribing them i started buying them on the sreet, and here i am clean,only because i was openminded enough to listen to the people on this fourm.
This coming from an addict who thought he knew it all, of course
that was nothing but folly.
To: re 5htp
5 htp is a wonderful supplement. It is an amino acid, and is the direct precursor to seratonin. Seratonin is depleted by chronic narcotic abuse, and that ia part of why we get the post detox depression. the 5htp got me out of a suicidal depression when I detoxed.
I suggest you go to the website www.Raysahelian.com   He is a Doctor who has written many books and done a lot of research on 5htp and other nutritional supplements.  You'll find dosage information and other stuff of help there.
I take 100mgs of 5 htp, every day, in the morning. Many people need 100mgs three times a day. Some folks need less. Never exceed 300mgs per day, and don't take it if you are already on an ssri antidepressant. too much seraton in your sytem can be extremely dangerous and even lethal.
hope this helps!
First off I would to apologize to everyone on my first posting it sounded like a little kid saying my daddy can beat up your daddy, or perhaps my bike is better than your bike. In truth I was saying my addiction is worse than yours ha ha. I am sorry for this.
Since my first post I have gone to my doctor and told him about my oxycontin problem (not that I was snorting it) but I did abuse it and that I liked it to much. He decided to switch me to MS CONTIN 200mg every 12 hours. I have been on this dose since Tuesday without a whole lot of problems. I have used the same Doc for better than 6 years. He knows I am a recovering alcoholic and addict. In the last 6 months my insurance changed and my new insurance no longer allowed me to use my old Doc. I discussed this with him at witch point he stated he would not allow an insurance company come between our relationship and that he would se me for free. I trust this man totally. He wants me to have a pain pump installed in my body. I did a test using the pump and it worked great. According to my doctor he wants to take the medicating out of my hands and put them in his.
I was wondering what ya’ll thought of this and if anyone is familiar with the pain pump. Any comment would be much appreciated.
