static encephalophathy and aphasia in 5 year old son

by kimnews3, Feb 17, 2008 08:53AM
just wondering why the dr. would say my son has static encephalophathy along with his aphasia,  he is a healthy child with aphasia  he has speech every day, and is in kindergarten and is doing extremely well.  when i look up static encephalophathy it has fetal alchol syndrome all over it  i never drank when i was pregnant and he is a healthy child other then having aphasia  and with therapy is doing wonderfully.  is there another definition of static encephalophathy that i am missing,  i am not comfrotable with what i am getting and if this diagnois was for insurance purposes only can i ask that she change this?  am i over reacting? thank you

static encephalopathy is static meaning unchanging and encephalopathy meaning brain damage. A person can be diagnosed with this after any brain insult. the up side is that your sons brain injury or damage will not get worse. The down side is that it is permanant and cannot be repaired.   I am not a doctor. I have a daughter with static encephalopathy she is adopted and has fetal alchohol syndrome. I asked specifically what the term meant and that is the explaination I received. Good luck and God bless
