Close Head Injury feeling disoriented, however CT scan of Brain came ok

by Kauwa, Feb 17, 2008 12:25PM
Hi, I am 38 year old male. I got a head injury while climbing up in a closed space, wherein i hit my head against some hard metal thing on the ceiling. There was a normal pain at that time, no unconciousness, vomiting or memory loss. I rubbed the head hard and later the injured area got little swollen and a small (about 1 centimeter) red line appeared.

After 10 days of that injury, when the swelling had almost gone and there was hardly any pain in that area (unless i purposely feel at that area) i got a feeling that my head is spinning a little. Along with that feeling i realised that my hand co ordination was slightly affected (but this feeling got over in no time). The main feeling of feeling light headed continued, however there was no problem in speech or hearing. I visited the General Physician and explained the feeling and asked if it could have some link with the head injury (taken place about 10 days ago). He checked my blood pressure which came to 130/80 (It normally used to be in the range of 124/80). He suggested me to have 'STERMETI-MD' medicine (basically to calm down the anxiety feeling) and said i should take the same only if the feeling is more. I have so far not taken that medicine. To rule out any internal damage he suggested a Head CT scan - Plain.

I got the 'Multislice Plain C.T. Brain' done the conclusion was :

"NO SIGNIFICANT PARENCHYMAL ABNORMALITY IS SEEN, NO OBVIOUS INTRA/EXTRA-AXIAL HEMATOMA OR SKULL VAULT DISPLACED FRACTURE IS SEEN"

Also in the report it makes a mention:

"INCIDENTALLY HYPERNEUMATISATION OF BOTH THE MASTOID AIR CELLS AS WELL AS THE SPHENOID AND FRONTAL SINUSES WITH PRESENCE OF PATCHY INFLAMMATORY SOFT TISSUES IN THE MAXILLIARY SINUSES"

I had earlier got my EEG done and it had come as normal. Since this feeling of disorientation has started i got trouble going to sleep 2 times in past 3-4 days (which is uncommon, but may be it is related to my state of mind as i am thinking about it). I work in shift duties, i did 2 night shifts since this feeling started and though i was heavily involved in the work (Yes it took away the thought of my this recently developed problem), i felt absolutely normal (just like earlier time).

I would request some one to suggest me something as to how o get over this feeling, or if there are any other tests which i can go for to rule out any other problem. I am also feeling stiffness and slight pain in my neck and upper shoulder area since this feeling has started.

Kindly Help!
