Epididymitis

by didy1002, Feb 17, 2008 02:09PM
Hi,

One thing that bothers me is that "Epididymitis" is commonly attributed to STD's. Although I can't recall exact dates; I am fairly certain that I first experienced symptoms of what would later be diagnosed as "Epididymitis" some time before I became sexually active. I remember the first couple of times that I felt pain in my testicle I just figured that I pulled a leg muscle or my groin at worst. The pain didn't go away and I sought out a physician's advice, but I didn't get any concise answers. Anyone know of other causes for this phantom "Epididymitis"?

This is an inflammation and infection of the long, tightly coiled tube that lies behind each testicle and collects sperm (epididymis). Epididymitis is usually caused by a bacterial infection but may also occur following a urologic procedure. Sexually transmitted diseases cause most cases of epididymitis in men younger than 35.

Hi,

Other infections from nearby structures like the prostate may lead to epididymitis. STD's are not the only cause of epididymitis. Bacterial infections from chronic or acute prostatitis , certain medications and vigorous exercises that may require straining may lead to epididymitis( due to backflow of urine).

Have you been diagnosed by a physician with epididymitis? Was a testicular ultrasound done?
