Cerebral aneurysm

by honeykb, Feb 17, 2008 08:08PM
My best friend had a cerebral aneurysm that bursted on Tue, 12th Feb 2008. After which doctors declared her brain dead. We had already started planning about organ donation and the n suddenly doctors said that there was a shoulder movement. We were happy, but again doctor corrected us saying that this kind of reflex is not a signal from her brain.. I met her in the visiting hours. A nurse and a doctor was around her bed. I spoke to her, yelled at her, cried and asked her to show some movement if at all she could hear me. She immediately moved her fingers and shoulders. She did that again when I asked her to do iit again. What should this movement be considered. I feel that she is hearing me.

Hi.

I feels sad for your friend. But if she has been declared brain dead, one can not do much about it. We can only hope against hope.

The doctors should have done EEG and brainstem evoked potentials as the tests to declare her brain dead. Without these tests, you can not declare.

The movements that you get from her shoulder and fingers are reflex movements at the level of the spinal cord.
