Genital HSV1

This discussion is related to HSV1 Genital Exposure.

I have genital HSV1, and my initial outbreak (2 weeks ago) was clear and painful - definitely symptomatic I guess you would say. I have both tested positive for it. So, with what I have been reading it appears that genital HSV1 is less likely to recur but I am getting a little confused with the plethora of info woven through descriptions of both HSV1 and HSV2. So,  I would like to have some direct info about genital HSV1. Likelihood of recurrence (would you recommend taking a suppressant everyday?), transmission, practicing oral sex, etc...
Thank you very much.

You are really unlikely to ever transmit it.  We know that ghsv1 sheds about 3% of days/year compared to 15% of days/year with ghsv2.

You are also far less likely to get recurrent outbreaks with any frequency - 50% will never get another one, and the average for those who do is 1 a year or 1 every other year (can't remember).

Here is a good article for you - http://blogs.webmd.com/genital-herpes-intimate-conversations/2006/02/type-i-herpes-transmission.html

Taking meds is up to you, but many experts feel as Jenny's doctor does in that its not necessary.  If it helps your peace of mind, then take it.  :)
