I need answers ASAP

I have been looking up symptoms of the flu for a few days now, and cant tell if i have the flu or pneumonia. I wish i could go see a doctor, but i have no medical insurance. My room mate is telling me to wait it out and to let it take its course. My questions are, if i let it run its course about how long will that be, and also, is there a possibility that it can change into something more severe?
