Diabteic husband freaked me out!

by melissa94, Feb 20, 2008 08:41AM
Hi, My husband was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which we have been montioring daily, the other day we were lying in bed when he started to shake uncontrollably, he drifted in and out of consciousness and seemed very disoriented, I did a finger stick and it was 156 but his blood pressure was 198/138 which was very high, he recovered after a while but I have never seen anything like it and am very concerned for his safety. If anyone has ever experienced anything similar I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks!

As far as I can tell from this post that episode was not caused by the diabetes.  However you were correct to test him and had the levels been low you would have needed to give him fast acting sugar like OJ or cake icing or something like that provided that he was conscious.  Otherwise if unconscious you would need to apply Glucophage and or call 911.  Chances of a Type 2 diabetic having a low reading are much less possible than a Type 1 diabetic.  Sounds to me like you need to see a cardiologist.
