I am having some problems with my daughter who is 13 in her school work......every year we try to to start her off on the right track.....it is always the same fight ...same grades failing....we talk..we ground,  everything....when she trys a little she can do the work....I had her tutored and she did do better......how can I get her to do the work without a fight and struggle everytime...she is the 7th grade.... I can't do this every year...

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your 13 year old daughter in making her do her homeowrk.  My one suggestion would be to go talk to her teachers and see how sheis doing in her class work and the  test taking. Aslo, you might want to find out if the teachers allow time for the students to do their homework in class.  I know, for fact that there are lots of kids who manages to finish their homework durig class time.  

Do not fight and aurgue with her.  give her the set time to do her homework and if she does not do her homework, let it get piled up and let her realise that she is failing her classes.  Beleive me sooner or later she will get with it.

thanks for the reply....thats the thing she is failing...the school says stay after and tutor...which she will start...just wish i could get her to do it from the start...

I struggle with this to.. My son just started 6 th grade middle school. this year Grades have went down the hill .. He truly doesnt not care if he fails .. But wants to succeed at everything else( football Basketball track) you name it but screw school.....So i have grounded everything !!! He does not care... I am lost

If the stick doesn't work, try a carrot.  Reward him for good behavior and see if that helps.

when you tell your child that they cant do somthing its going to make them want to do watever it is more
so the more you keep trying to make them get better grades, ground them or fight with them about it the more there not going to not want to do it
my advice to u is to go easy stop pushing it
because most likely once you stop then they will see
the worst that could happen is they get retained or summer school


so dont push     see wat happens then write back to tell me wat happend

I have a 13yr.old and his grades went down hill in 6th grade.   but jr. high is so different and he didn't know it but was ready for a change. He took responsability and now he gets A's and B's!  We also pay him for A's and B's on his report card, i know how that sounds but it works for us anyway!!  So hopefully when he starts jr.high he will take charge and get the grades.  Good Luck!!
