Mass health run around

by lisajo, Feb 20, 2008 04:26PM
I applied for mahealth and it appeared by one letter that i was accepted then another letter I made to much and I qualified for Commonwealth but I had to enroll for it.  I requested the enrollment papers and they sent me the Mahealth papers that I just sent them.  Forget calling them because you get hostile unhelpful people that seems to enjoy sending you in a complete circle with their phone numbers.  Very impatient people and short and rude.  they act like we have no rights to ask the questions we have and don't solve our problems anyway!  Is this what they mean by buracracy?  how ever you spell that!

What should i do if i don't feel that I can afford health insurance and I make under the 30K that they say you should and yet they say i am not in the poverty level!

Dear lisajo,

For a comprehensive list of all public programs, I recommend that you look at the Health Care Options Matrix™ Guide which is the only hand-held guide available that outlines all of each state’s public and private health care choices for individuals and groups in almost every demographic profile, as well as offering a reference list of phone numbers and web sites. For your State, visit  http://coverageforall.org/pdf/matrix/MA_Matrix.pdf .

Commonwealth Health plans use the Masshealth paperwork. Re-submit the paperwork to commonweath and wait for their response. Once you select a health plan, you can communicate with the health plans customer service representatives. They are much more helpful and curteous. I have had nothing but good dealings with Neighborhood Health and their Care Manager program. An alternative is to keep calling until you get someone that is helpful, If that fails, contact your state rep. ask them to intervene.

Under 30k in Massachusetts should be considered poverty level due to the cost of living here. It's like 15k in most parts of the country.

Best of luck!
