What could this be?

Good morning, I woke up back one morning back in October with a lower molar hurting, it had been filled probably 2 years ago.  I went to the dentist and he took x-rays and said that there was nothing wrong with that tooth.  He then had x-rays taken of my upper wisdom tooth on the same side.  He told me that he felt that it needed to come out.  The x-ray only showed a small portion of the wisdom tooth, and the girl who took the x-rays said she could re-do the films, he said no.  I never had the wisdom tooth removed because while he was examining me, he jaw checking my bite an my jaw popped real loud on the side where the tooth pain was coming from, the pain was gone almost instantly.  Now for the past week I have had neck, shoulder and lower teeth pain, its almost unbearable at times.  I have an appointment at an oral surgeons today and I was wondering if you could tell me if this wisdom tooth could cause me to have pain in the bottom teeth and neck and shoulder.  What can I take over the counter until I get there?  My wisdom tooth is not impacted, it's all the way through the gum, would novacaine be sufficient enough?  I'm kinda scared to be put out, being I was never put under before, and I'm quite a baby when it comes to dentistry.
I am 37 years old.

Thank you kindly, Jennifer

You should wait until the Oral Surgeon takes the proper radiograph which is called a Panorex.  At that time, they would be able to determine if a tooth is the likely cause of your symptoms or perhaps could be a TMJ disorder or facial pain.

If you need to have any surgery, the oral surgeon can offer you several options from local anesthesia to IV sedation or general anesthesia.
