Enlarged Thymus In Infants

by concernedaboutmynephew, Feb 21, 2008 11:08PM
My nephew is 7 months old and lives in Mongolia.  Recently, he was taken to the hospital for "turning blue" and "shaking".  The doctors say he has an enlarged thymus and the hospital does not provide service for this condition.  What can we do?  What treatments are available?  What are the possible outcomes?  How immediate is this emergency?  (please note the doctors say his chest x-rays are normal.  I don't know how the doctors arrived at this conclusion, and translating from English to Mongolian is less than perfect, but my Mongolian wife and I (American husband) are very concerned.)

Try posting your question to Dr. Lupo on the "Ask a Doctor Forum"
http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/120

I'm sure he will know a lot more about this condition then we will.

You could also try the pediatric endocrinology forum:
http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/173

Since both forums are limited to the number of new posts that can be accepted each day I would try posting it to the first one you can get on.

Good luck

Check out this website:

It tells of shrinking the thymus in children from the outside without any surgery.  Read the page it brings up.  Sounds really easy!

The outlook for a child left with this does not look good from the reading I just did on it.  Would see if they couldn't do something like above quickly or get somewhere that they can.  Hard to understand when they live somewhere that is so different from all the options we have as Americans!

Praying for the poor baby and his family.
