My aunty aged 70 is hospitalised due to brain stem stroke. She is kept in ICU. She is put on ventilator.  She does not have full consciousness.  As per matrix prepared daily now she is on scale 8.  She was in scale 3.  What are the chances of recovery? Will she regain normal breathing, swallowing and blinking effect as the days go by? Pl advice us.

My father aged 80 had a massive stroke in December of 2007.  He was kept in ICU for three weeks but he was always able to breath on his own.  My father stayed in the hospital for about a month before he was transferred to a Skilled Nursing Facility.  My father's stroke was hemorrhagic and he has not yet recovered very much movement on his paralyzed side.  He has however become much more alert, and consistently participates in rehab 4 or 5 times per week.  He has a peg tube (feeding tube) and even though he doesn't speak, he can nod yes, laughs and I feel he understands most of what is said to him although he he is unable to speak.

Never lose hope and continue to support your auntie.
