white sensitive spot on gums

by rolan, Feb 22, 2008 11:04AM
A few days ago I noticed there was a soft spot on my upper left gums, above my molars.  It is a sensitive white area which bleeds when I brush my molars, as well as when I try to brush the soft spot.

I've never had gum or tooth problems before, so I'm wondering if its just a fairly big canker sore, gum disease, an abscess or something else that should concern me.  Also, other than seeing a dentist what I might be able to do to speed the healing process.
