"Effexor is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs). Effexor affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression.
Effexor is used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety, and panic disorder."
It appears to be pretty similar to paxil. Can't tell if its stronger or not by the quick read through that I did. Google it to get more info. Very weird about not getting adderall, etc. Especially with the Doctor giving you effexor.
Maybe they now can only give something like concerta since adderall and ritalin are fairly strong. Or maybe, they have to make sure you have ADHD first. There has been a huge outcry about people without ADHD using it cause it acts like speed for them. Do you still have your old prescription for ritalin, that would help prove you were on it. I would also get your medical records forwarded to your new Dr. Once the new Dr. (or any Dr.) has your medical records, that should make the whole process much easier.
I also wonder if you could get a new prescription from your old Doctor. Many times pharmicists will call them to get a renewal.
