A little worried

by NewlyDiagnosed146, Feb 22, 2008 05:30PM
I am a 24 year old female and I was just diagnosed with Adult ADHD.  My doctor hasn't prescribed me any medications yet, however he mentioned that he always starts out his patience on Strattera since it is a nonstimulant and is not as addictive as adderall or ritalin.
I started research on Strattera and am fairly skeptical and scared about what i have been hearing about suicidal thoughts, feeling drowsy, and all around just not feeling good and sick depressed even.

Can anyone give me some personal insight to experiences or information about Strattera?? It seems that I may need to have a discussion with my doctor about a possible different medication, but don't want to suggest adderall or ritilan since he seems set on not prescribing stimulants, and don't want him thinking i am a junkie looking for a fix.

Any suggestions?????

I just wrote a really nice message to you and it got deleted. Ugh.  If the doctor is a general practitioner, make sure you consult with a psychiatrist before starting out on anything. Some general practitioners have a tendency to shy away from stimulant medications, because they are not familiar enough with them. If you truly have ADD, stimulant medications are extremely helpful. It's like a light switch goes on in your brain. Also, check out schwalblearning.org (check spelling, as it might be schwablearning.org) for helpful information on ADHD.  Additudemag.com also has some helpful information. Best of luck to you!
