22 Surgical Extractions. Horrible Pain

Hi, Just found this site was googling and voila here I am.

Tuesday the 19th I had 22 surgical extractions, I was put to sleep via gas and intravaneously. Most of the swelling has since gone, however I am having some tremendous pain in what seems to be my entire lower jaw bone and the roof of my mouth. The surgeon used dissolving stitches, a piece of one which came out last night.

I go back on the 26th for post op check in.

The roof of my mouth seems to be the most stinging pain in two spots near the front left and back right. When i move my tongue across it, today it felt as though there might be stitches there as well. Is it normal to put stitches into the roof of the mouth during an extensive extraction procedure like this.

The roof of my mouth hurts much worse with it's stinging constant pain than the lower dull aching pain of my lower jaws. Both fo which are painful mind you, but the roof of my mouth is really what my concern right now is and how to alleviate that pain.

I was prescribed pain medications (Tylox and Vicodin) and I have been taking ibuprofen so as not to overtake any of the prescribed ones.

Also he has me on 2 types of antibiotics, one of which is in tablet form the other is an antibiotic mouth rinse.

Any ideas as to why there would be stitches there and to how i can alleviate the pain, and even perhaps when will it alleviate on it's on?

I would call him, but his office is only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I was hoping after this surgery that by the weekend all my pains of past toothaches and severe pain would be finished. I was mistaken and now am really scared to even go back for the 2 root canals on my final 2 teeth so they can place a denture.

Your doctor should have someone covering their emergencies or be reachable.  You should definitely address these questions directly to them.

It is very common to use sutures following dental extractions.  The sutures themselves do not usually cause any discomfort.

If the medications are not controlling your pain - you should immediately call your doctor as you may have a post-operative complication such as infection or dry-socket.
