My 9 yr old grandson seems to have low self esteem

by drnana, Feb 24, 2008 10:49AM
Why would a 9 yr old boy who has a great family, parents together and a little sister, have low self esteem.    He says things like "I hate myself", "I can't do anything right"..    He is a very good student, very funny & cute, and has friends, but he does not feel like he fits in.    One day we stopped to get gas and he got out of the car to get something out of the back of the SUV.  When he opened the door, some things fell out and broke and he ran back to the car and hid in the floorboard crying.  Is this normal behavior for a 9 yr old boy?
