lost my voice

Last week Tuesday through Thursday I had the flu.  I went to school on Friday  felling mostly better but by the end of the day my voice started to get scratchy and the next morning it was gone.  Now its been 3 days with out being able to talk out loud.  I can whisper.  I feel some mucus or fluid in my throat which is causing me to hack.  I was just wondering is I should go see a doctor?  I have to go to school so I also need to know if it could be contagious.  I don't feel sick except for the voice.

Thank you for your time!

If you are an otherwise healthy person and are having no breathing problems, either breathing in or breathing out, you should wait another 24 to 48 hours for signs of improvement.  If this is simple laryngitis, it will likely resolve spontaneously.  However if you are having any fever, breathing or swallowing problems, you should call your doctor and/or go to the nearest emergency room to have direct examination of your voice box and vocal cords.

And yes, there is a good possibility that you are contagious.
