What should I do?

by sonflowrr, Feb 25, 2008 10:44PM
I am a 33 and have recently had my pap smear. It came back normal, but positive for HPV.  Of course, my HMO wants to schedule one for next year. Yes, I do realize its a virus and will go away--more than likely. Here is my concerns at this point in time:  1. Should my boyfriend go to his doctor and request HPV screening? And if it comes back positive, should we abstain from having sex without condom?  2. Should I request for a HPV test with my HMO for more accuracy as far as being positive for HPV?  3. How will this effect my ability to get pregnant and have children?

I am very concerned about enjoying my sexual relationship with my partner--we've discussed it and he says I'm overly worried. I've watched two friends die to cancer (lung and breast). Anything that can be related to cancer worries me. Thanks!

u r rescheduled for another exam in a year?no colposcopy soon?no test for a male with HPV..they don't even know they have it unless they have wart bearing strain..2 late to have sex with condom..u both have it....i would want another pap or colp soon to determine how much of this is on ur cervix if ur doc hasn't informed u which he should have....MANY women get hpv get it treated and go on2 have normal pregnancies and deliveries....and it takes a long time to allow HPV to go untreated b4 it develops in2 cancer...most women who ignore having paps yearly do encounter problems with ovarian/cervical cancer in the long run.
