i just found out last night that i have herpes zoster, but i forgot to ask my dermatologist if it's ok for me to shower, and if not, can i just cover up my right arm (where the infection is) with a plastic bag or something and just wash the rest of my body. and if i can't, is there a certain way where i can clean the infected area or should i just leave it til next week (when i see the doctor again)

Shingles is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus.  You don't have to worry about making it "worse" on yourself or anything. Shower as usual.

Did they talk to you about staying home from work and not going out until it's healed? Even though it's not contagious to you - it is contagious to others.

did the herpes zosters create a distinct pattern on your arm or did it just flare up like a regular rash.
