Itching from sun, no rash?

by lauritarose, Feb 26, 2008 08:27PM
I'm 25 and I just started having this problem where if I go into the sun (long enough to get a very mild sunburn or tan, just an hour or less) I get intense itching wherever the skin was exposed. But there is no rash or hives at all, and the only redness comes if there is a slight sunburn. The itching sets in the next day and lasts several days. This doesn't seem to be any of the "sun allergies," though. It started last summer when I already had an established tan and I've begun experiencing it again. I don't seek out a deep tan or anything, I just like to be out at the beach. Should I seek help, or should I stop exposing myself to the sun?

Hi,

What you describe seems like sweat dermatitis or heat rash.

You should try to keep the area dry and clean. Try some powder to absorb the sweat.

If the symptoms are still persistent, consult your dermatologist and get a proper clinical evaluation done.

Meanwhile, avoid sun exposure and use a medicated sunscreen.

Let us know if you have any doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Good luck.
