Extreme Swelling in Leg

by XTLee, Feb 27, 2008 06:49PM
Last week I had several blood tests run.  My Rheumatoid Factor was high but the markers were negative.  I don't have Lupus.  The doctor said she believes I'm in the beginning stages of RA.  I'm 38.  I have RA and scherladerma in my family (uncles).  The doctor has put me on Celebrex and Plaquenil.  My pain isn't extreme but I do have severe swelling in my legs.  My right leg is worse than the left.  It is about 1/4 of an inch larger than it should be, all the way up.

One of my concerns is that I am working and unable to raise my legs to releave the swelling.  Can this lead to further problems?  Should I be taking time off until it subsides?

I've been trying to eat foods that are considered anti-inflammatory.  I haven't seen a change yet.

Did you get help with this concern? because we have identical symptoms with RA diagnosis. However, the swelling at times effects my right arm also. Mine is so severe I have not worked since June 07, sudden onset out of the blue at night and has never left since. My leg (R) gets so swollen it feels engorged. like my skin is going to burst, so painful. I don't drive either, and rarely can do shopping much longer than 5-10 mins. My life is no longer in my control.
I also have Raynauds Phenomenom as a side effect, and neuropathy and a combination of yet to be diagnosed connective tissue diseases.
If you don't mind, let me know about you to. I feel so alone in this ****, and only one doctor I have seen out of one hundred was really passionate about getting me help, and he is to far away. Especially when you can't drive and have to get rides from others.

Best of Luck!
