brain aneurysm

by craftydame, Feb 28, 2008 04:19AM
My sister has a brain aneurysm next to her optic nerve, she had a balloon inserted a couple of weeks ago at the neck of it and we were wondering if this balloon stays in there forever or does it have to be removed at sometime later down the road once a clot forms to block off the blood flow to the aneurysm. How long can this balloon stay in there before it gets removed if it has to be taken out later. They said if this doesn't work they may have to put a stent in, but said they were having trouble finding a stent big enough to fit in the neck of her aneurysm, does this sound right, do these things come in different sizes or are they made up ahead of time to fit ones aneurysm. What I read about them they are a bunch of wires made to look like a scaffold that they use. It has been a couple of weeks since she has had this balloon put in and doesn't go back again to see Dr;s for a month.  Also How long do they have to wait between going in again before doing another procedure. does this affect why she has to wait so long between procedures.Would appreciate any answers to these questions. Thankyou.
