Prolapsed Colon

by gringo20, Feb 28, 2008 11:40PM
Last year I went into the hospital to have my gall bladder removed and the surgeon punctured my colon in the process. He sewed it up and two days after I went home, my colon came apart. I was rushed back and ended up with a colostomy. That was a year ago. About three months ago, my ostomy began to "prolapse". It is coming further and further out. It is driving me crazy. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what you did about it. I have an appointment next week at Emory, here in Atlanta. But I was wondering if any of you have had this happen and how did you cope with it. Everyday, I feel like it may be my last. I know that I am having a hard time coping with this thing.

It will not be your last day...not because of that...it can be surgically corrected and for now use a 2-piece so you can be careful with the long stoma if you can so as not to cut or damage it...they heal quickly if this does happen due to the great blood supply in the intestine.....do not irrigate or anything (if you did before) until it is corrected
