my 2 year old will not talk

my son is 2 yrs and almost 3 months and he will not speak he knows about 7 words and some of those he cant say right he can not say momma but when he says dada he says dadadada and please is plea when he asks a question like if he wants something he says want? of if he is asking if your okay he says okay? and i know thats a start but shouldnt there be more he constantly "jibber jabbers" and when i talk to him he listens and responds to here bye and his own name but thats about it but he is very creative he knows how to work any D.V.D. player if he is left alone with it for 5 mins he makes up songs that only consists on DA'S but it still songs he can work radios and phones he plays his little leaps game but he just randomly presses buttons he cant figure out wich one does what is it something i did or is he slow wht can i do? it seems he understands electronics perfect he works things i still havent figured out butyet he cant figure out his own toys or not even what the potty is why?

Some kids focus on different things.  He is obviously a hands on child.  It sounds like he is very smart and you should be proud of that.  Everything your son knows...is because you have shown it to him.  Even though we want our children to be the best at everything, even at a young age, they tend to pick and choose what they want to do.  Sometimes when they are more advanced in one particular area, they tend to lag in another.  I wouldnt worry about it unless your doctor is worried.  Jibber Jabbering is language, and it is him trying to mimic sounds.  You should be very proud though that he is so advanced with hands on skills.  Most kids cant pick things up very well at that age yet, and he is actually pushing buttons, knows the responses he will get from different things, etc.  You are doing a great job.  Dont give up, and just keep talking to him in a regular adult language. If you use baby talk it encourages them to use it as well.  Good luck!!!
