bleeding after menopause

by pango08, Mar 01, 2008 12:08AM
I have recently had a colonoscopy and had two polyps removed. There was a lot of pressure on my lower abdominal region during the procedure and the next day I began a menstrual period despite the fact that blood tests reveal that I am post-menopausal. My last period was approximately nine months ago. I have pain in the ovarian error after the pressure from the colonscopy procedure. Do you think the colonoscopy and the menstrual bleeding are related?

Hi.  It is possible that the colonoscopy and menstrual bleeding are related.  If you are perimenopausal and have not had a period for the past nine months, this means that you've had that amount of time for the uterine lining to build up and thicken, even with minimal amounts of estrogen stimulation.  What I think happened was that the colonoscopy served as a source of stress for your body, causing your estrogen levels to go down further, and the 9-month old thickened uterine lining to slough off becuase of a lack of hormonal support.
