Prolactinoma and Birth Control Pills

by thina2480, Mar 01, 2008 08:22PM
Hi-
I am a 2 year old woman who was diagnosed 10 yrs ago with a pituitary microadenoma.  The tumor is not very responsive to bromochriptine or carbergoline, but it also has not been growing.

Under normal circumstances, I experience only mild breast discharge.  however, my doctor is concerned about how this condition is affecting my estrogen levels, and therefore has me on the pill(tri-sprintec) because of concerns about osteoperosis.

The pill seems to make my prolactin levels higher, although my dr doesn't seem to know why.  Is there an explanation for this?

Also, during my placebo week, I experience pretty significant breast discharge.  I am wondering why this occurs during the placebo week, and whether there is anything I can do about it.
