Sudden Death

by kitap86, Mar 01, 2008 08:28PM
Hi, my sister just passed away a month ago all of a sudden.  My mom found her within 5 minutes but she was already dead.  We obviously called 911, they tried to recitate her but that didn't work.  Her post partum stated the death was caused because of an "Enlarged Heart". She was only 16 years old and she wasn't an athlete.  I am confused on how it can happen so suddenly and what the causes could've been.  Was it because of stress or a underlying condition.  She never complained of any symptoms and she was healthy.  Is it genetic?  Thanks.

I am so, so sorry about your sister. I can't imagine how heart-breaking and scary that must be for you. I'm sorry to say I don't know anything about your question - if you post on the expert forum you can ask a doctor (but I think you have to pay $20.) It seems like it would be a good idea for you to get checked out by a cardiologist, just to make sure that an enlarged heart is not something that runs in your family. It does seem really strange, if she wasn't an athlete...Again, I'm so sorry...our lives really are fleeting...
