Is this a brain tumor or sinus problems.

by ShampooBottle, Mar 02, 2008 05:45PM
Ok. So I am 15 years old and I have been experincing some peculiar sypmtoms.
It started about 3-4 weeks ago.
I get really dizzy, but not to the point where I could fall. It'd like diorientantion or something.
And the left side of my head has been hurting really bad, around the top and it's not really constant but on and off.
Also my ears feel stuffy and everything sounds muffled.
I can't breathe that well because my nose is stopped up.
And sometimes but not often there is a slight pressure behind my left eye.
I get hot a lot when I'm just sitting down.
[maybe because i can't breathe that well, and sometimes I forget to breathe]
My fase has recently started to get flushed but I was thinking that maybe it was because I couldn't breathe well or my period.
I've had sinus problems all my life and the doctors always say that it is just sinuses.
They give me medicine and it never helps.!
I got to thinking about it and I was afraid that maybe it was one of those scary misdignoise things like on tv.
Please help.

Hello.

The current symptoms do hint towards sinusitis. But your earlier experience of twitching has to be explained. Did you have any investigation done ?

Are you on any medication currently ?

No I haven't. My mom just said it was nothing to worry about. I don't shake anymore. I stopped about a year ago.

I'm currently on amenstine or what ever for acne.

Is it a brain tumor ?
Am I going to die..

Hello.

First things first. This is not a brain tumor and you are not going to die.

Now, consider migraine headaches / cluster headaches. Ask your physician to assess you for migraine headaches. Also, observe if the headaches and the face flushing increase more during your menses. Let me know.

Hi.

Brain tumor produces symptoms depending upon its location in the brain. Common tumors are meningiomas. They lie in the frontal - parietal region.

A brain tumor typically leads to episodes of fainting / unconsciousness. The person sees dark in front of the eyes, there is loss of balance and consciousness for some time and the person may fall and injure himself.

Other symptoms are intense headache, nausea, vomiting and focal symptoms. If the tumor is in the temporal lobe, you may get hallucinations. If the tumor is in the central portions, it may obstruct the Cerebrospinal fluid flow.

As I said earlier, the symptoms of brain tumor depend upon its location.

Hello.

Your symptoms do not suggest a tumor, unless the twitching that you had was a seizure!

I would still think of an MRI of the brain and rule the tumor out for the sake of confirmation. It will not be appropriate to say there is no tumor and not get an MRI.

So I went to the doctor yesterday.
They found fluid behind my ears which she said causes the dizzyness and headache.
Also, my left neck muscle thing is pulled or something because it hurts A LOT and has been for the past few days. Do you think that is why the back of my head hurts [it started about the same time]

Hello.

The neck muscle has occipital nerve branches running "through" them. Any stretch or pull of the muscles is going to stretch the nerve, too. The consequence is the back of the head pain. It starts at the lower back of the head, ascends up on top and may ever reach the eyes.

You will have to take the help of some physical therapy for this. What is the plan for the fluid? What do the doctors say?

Do you take any pain relief medication?
