Grace - transmission HSV-2

Grace, you mentioned that you had only transmitted HSV-2 twice in your life and it was during the 1st year of your infection.  My question is what precautions do you take with partners?  What is effective?    Have you had relationships in which you take valtrex and do not use condoms?  Also, can I expect the 1st year of infection to be the highest risk period?  I really appreciate your help.  Thank you.

I started suppressive therapy about 3 or 4 years into being infected with hsv2 due to almost constant ob's.  I'm still on it all the time.  I usually use condoms in the begining of a relationship but I don't use them usually after a few months unless my partner still wants to.

So how difficult is it to spread herpes when you aren't having an outbreak if you use protection?  i slept with a girl one time, used protection, and she did not and says she has never had an outbreak.  However, recently she found out that she had sex with a male (protected) who tested positive for herpes.

Can you remind me again what are the risks of transmission with 1G daily valtrex and no condom?  I am really scared because it's my first year of infection and I think I am very contagious even though I haven't had another outbreak.
