high pulse rate

my dad is suffering by thyroid problem .. and his pulse rate is fluctuating 120 to 140 plz tell me what is reason for that and which test will give reason for high pulse rate .... doctor has done ECG but in that every thing is normal..... and what are preliminary steps to be taken when the pulse rate are high..

Is he on Synthroid? If that is out of whack could cause high heart rate. My doc's told me to make sure Thyroid is allright when I had high heart rate. Thyroid can definitely cause problems with metabolism and heart rate. Get Thyroid checked. Hope things get better.
