One blocked Fallopian tube

by Nikita333, Mar 04, 2008 01:43PM
I had my HSG done on the 6th day of my period (note: bleeding/ spotting lasts upto 5-6 days) and turns out that my left tube is blocked. The X-ray shows the dye entering all the way into my left tube and stopping at the junction between the tube and the ovary. All my other tests came out to be normal and I am 29 years old and we have been TTC for a year now. My doctor highly recommends IVF, but I am not very comfortable with the idea of IVF without exploring other treatment options. My questions are:
1> Could the block be due to remnants of my period?
2> Is there any point in doing the HSG again?
3> What are my chances if I opt for surgery to remove the blockage?

Also I had a miscarriage around 5-6 years back, so I have been pregnant before.
I am desperately looking for a second & expert opinion and would be highly grateful to get any advice or even share experiences if some body has been through the same thing or is currently going throught it.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Hello, I also have one blocked tube, but my blockage is at the end of the tube. I don't think you should go with IVF just yet. Definetly get another's doc's opinion. You still have other tube working correctly. I have my appt in fertility clinic soon to figure out what is my next step, but I know there are other choices than going streight to IVF.
I am pretty sure the tube is not blocked by remains of your period, I've read that HSG may rarly give incorrect reading if you get cramps while it's being performed.
I will give you an update as soon as I have my visit.

Blocked tube can be cause by a few different thing. First, did you have any trama or sur in area, secondly did you have Chlamydia or PID? Chlamydia is the number one cause of blocked tubes. I had it as a teenager and that is why I had a etopic pregnancy and now i  only have one tube. I had a salpingohistogram and it verified that the tube is not blocked but I have not conceived since then. You should go for a second opionion. Did they do a post couitus test with you to see where the sperm is traveling?
