STD?

Is it possible, or likely, to have any STD with the symptom of a tender testicle, without having any discharge from the penis?
About one month ago I was having vaginal sex with an escort, and the condom slipped off. Now, my right testicle is aching. Although touching it doesn't seem to give me more pain. I've kept a very very close watch, and have seen no discharge at all from my penis. It is possible that I have had a very small amount of burning, but it's probably in my head (been through this before.)
I had an appt at my local health dept today, and they called to cancel because of a big snow storm we had in Michigan last night. Now, the soonest I can be seen in Monday afternoon.

It is possible.  Let me review the syndrome and you can comment if it fits.  Certain STDs, most often chlamydia or gonorrhea cause a problem called epididymitis in which some of the tubes that run from the testis to the male urethra (penis) get infected. These infections usually but not always have discharge and/or burning on urination as part of their symptoms.  In addition, there may be swelling of the testis.  Epididymitis tends to get progressively worse if not treated.  Does this fit for you?

As you point out, there are also instances in which people's concerns/anxieties contribute to similar symtoms.  The best way to get this evaluated is, indeed, to go to your local STD clinic.  If after reading this, you think this is likely, I would suggest you call them again and tell them that this is your concern.  They should be able to see you sooner than five days from now.

Finally, if you are going for an evaluation, do not urinate for at least two hours before you go as urination may "flush" out the penis, making infection a bit more difficult to detect.

Hope this is helpful.  EWH
