Attorney refuses to talk to me

by IL_GAL, Mar 05, 2008 12:24PM
My ex-husband is in arrears up to $25K.  I live in Oregon, he lives in IL and I flew in to what my attorney called my "only/final" court hearing.  She was not prepared and I now have to go back to court again.  Since then, she's told me my court date was in January, I booked airfare, took a couple of days off work, had someone watching the kids and she calls me two days before the court hearing and tells me it's been moved but gives me no date as to when.

She sent me a bill and I totally disagree w/the charges.  I told her this and she refuses to talk to me.  IShe has her secretary talk to me and I can hear her telling her secretary what to tell me, but she refuses to get on the phone.  Oh, and she told me that if I don't pay her asap, she is withdrawing for my case and that, by law, it is mandatory that I fly to Illinois and go thru mediation so I will have to pay her and it will cost me even more if I don't do this (she did this via email as she refuses to talk to me).  She's written me threatening and nasty emails since I've hired her (I've kept all of them), and has told me that I should have my husband adopt my kids as my ex is a piece of "s**t*, etc.

I've done my best to remain objective but it's getting really upsetting as she sends me nasty emails and refuses to talk to me until I pay her exactly what she wants.  She told me it's irrelevant that she wasn't prepared - - that I've been to court before and should have been prepared (I have this all via email).

I want to pay her, I want to work it out, but these charges don't add up (ie, she's charging me $50 for leaving me 4 messages... but she's NEVER called me, not once).

Any thoughts???

Hey Toots,
I think you may be on the wrong forum......this one is for anxiety and such. You could possibly find what your looking for on one of the others..................BUT

If I was you, I would call my local Bar Association, or some place like that, and report this lawyer to them! Really amazing if she is, indeed, pulling the stunts you've described!

Good luck
