?Seroquel

Could you tell me if the following is related to having taken Seroquel:  78 year old diabetic female previously well controlled began having uncontrollable hyperglycemia which continued for months.  Now she has been diagnosised with metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Hi.  Seroquel intake has been strongly associated with the development or worsening of hyperglycemia, but the association of this drug with the subsequent development of pancreatic cancer is not yet definite and is still the subject of numerous clinical studies.  So to answer your question:  it's quite possible that chronic intake of Seroquel could have contributed to the worsening of that 78 year old female's sugar control, but other factors which may account for the uncontrolled hyperglycemia have to be investigated as well.  These include factors such as diet, other concomitant illnesses (example: pneumonia) which may worsen hyperglycemia, compliance with diabetes medication, etc.  As for the pancreatic cancer, there is no definite proof at this time that the Seroquel caused the cancer.
