Seroquel Side Effects

by lwilk, Mar 05, 2008 07:37PM
My mother in law is 78 and has had type II diabeties for many years.  Approximately a little over a year ago she entered a nursing home after having acute mental status changes.  Unknowingly to us (family) she has been recieving Seroquel mostly likely for dementia related phycosis (black box warning).  For many months she has had very uncontrolled glucose levels.  The nursing home has contributed these uncontrollable glucose levels to noncompliance.  However, now she developed severe jaundice and itching.  After hospitalization she has a positive tissue diagnosis of pancreatic cancer with lymph node involvement.  We have been told to take her home & bring in hospice, no treatment is recommended.  Sorry for that lengthy story.  My question is could her cancer have been caused by taking Seroquel, how like is it that it was caused by the Seroquel??  Thanks in advance for your opinion in this matter.  Sincerely

HI,
I am afraid I am not the best person to answer that question because I do not prescribe Seroquel as part of my medical practice in Endocrinology. To my knowledge it is not linked to pancreatic cancer but the best person to ask would be a pharmacist or mental health specialist, or alternatively a GI expert who knows a great deal about pancreatic cancer.
I am sorry I could not be of much help here.
Take care.
