clomid cycles

by Joy1118, Mar 06, 2008 02:17PM
Has anyone heard that the maximum amount of cycles of clomid you can be on is 12?  My dr said that 12 is the limit and I was wondering what the reasoning is behind it.  I can't find any research about it

Hello!

Some doctors will not do more than three rounds of clomid with IUI because they feel like if it didn't work, and you did have good follicles and ovulation, it isn't going to.  Nearly all pregnancies that occur on clomid happen by cycle four.  My doctor would not do more than 3 cycles of clomid with me.

The 'authorities' on the subject say that six is the maximum number of cycles, IUI or not, that you should take clomid.  If it doesn't work by then, you should move onto injectibles.  Twelve cycles on clomid is waaaaaay to many! I would think it's a phenomenal waste of money and time, and with the anti-estrogen effects it produces and all the cysts and such that can form, I wouldn't want to take that stuff for a year!

Here is a good link that mentions it the max number of times to take it:

My dr would only do 3 cyles.  I have heard that it can cause ovarian cancer but I haven't seen any research about it.  I agree with Sheri.  If it is going to work for you, it would have by now.  It seems like a waste of time, money, and effort.

I was told you have the highest chances within the first 3 rounds but that they will go up to 7 rounds.  Most women find that if Clomid will work for them then it works within the first 3 cycles.  I'm on the first round of Clomid and waiting to ovulate....

Hi.  I too am on my first round of Clomid.  Have you had an ultasound then this month to see how many follicles you have?  Are you taking 50mg?  I think I got my surge yesterday so will ovulate in the next couple of days.
