Pre-diabetes

I am taking glucophage XLR because my doctor says I have pre-diabetes.  What does pre-diabetes mean?

HI,
Prediabetes refers to abnormalities in glucose handling that are not quite normal but not yet in the diabetes range. On testing this usually means a fasting glucose between 100 and 125, and a post-meal/post-glucose challenge value between 141 and 200mg/dL). While it is not frank diabetes, having pre-diabetes does put you at risk for development of diabetes in future. But it also presents a possible window for you to work hard at diet and exercise to bring your sugars down to normal on your own. So give it your best shot.
Take care.
