Do you advise traveling to Mexico during Chemo treatments?  The first treatment for a friend will be this week and she plans on traveling to Mexico for Easter.  What would you advise.

I have gone to Cancun every spring since 1997. I went in April 06, before my original dx that May. I went last April 3 months after finishing chemo. Now I have had a recurrence (Oct 07) I am currently on chemo. My chemo makes me very weak and drives, my blood counts down. When your white counts drop, you are suseptible to picking up viruses, colds, germs on uncooked foods, etc... I would not risk going on chemo,as much as I love the trip.If she does go,  she needs to find out about being in the sun on her chemo, drink only bottled water, soft drinks,,avoid the salad and fruit bars,, be sure foods are cooked well done, wash hands often,  and carry hand sanitizer.I would find out about local clinics or hospitals ,and how they would be paid in an emergency.  Definitely discuss it with her dr. If she is able to go , I hope she has a safe and fun trip.  Best wishes   Donna,
