overlookng easy answers for constipation - B complex

by shoil, Mar 09, 2008 02:17PM
About five years ago I started taking Paxil for anxiety.  About five years ago i also started experiencing constipation.  Naturally, I attributed the constipation, a known side-effect of Paxil, to the new drug.  To make a long story short, after five years of trying diet and exercise changes, laxitives, having a barium enema, and having a uterine fibroid removed only because i thought it was putting pressure on my colon (it was not) .....one day, for no reason at all, I started taking a mulitvitamin.  I have been 'regular' again ever since.  I looked up 'vitamin defficiencies and constipation' and found that B complex is essential for good GI health.  I also learned that a B complex defficiency can cause low blood platelets, high cholesterol, and nervousness.  I had all these symptoms but no doctor made the connection to B complex.  My GP explicitly recommended NOT taking a mulitvitamin after she determined that I was drinking enough milk and orange juice with calcium.  Apparently, she was focused on osteoporosis since I'm a middle-aged female.  Is it a coincidence? Or have I just cured myself?
