Persistent Cough

Hello, I'm a 24 yr student and in desperate need of an opinon.  I have seen several doctors for the following symptoms I'm about to describe, with absolutely no relief.  For about a year now I have had a persistent cough that started with some benign throat clearing habits and has slowly progressed into a persistent cough that is sometimes productive of white mucous and quite painful. At its worst the cough is very irritating to my thorat as well as to my chest  My nose tends to be stuffed up at times (but comes and goes), but is not runny.  So now here's what I've been told from previous doctors : "its allergy related, a cold, possibly, and possibly gerd".  I've tried antihistamines, nasal sprays, mucinex,  and PPI's.  I've never had a fever associated with any of these symptoms, I dont smoke, dont drink, nor do I have any other significant past medical History.    No xrays have ever been performed.  Please give me your opinion on this.  Thank you

I would strongly recommend getting a chest x-ray.  Just check in with a doctor, and ask him/her that you would like a chest x-ray. It's important to get it taken care of, because it can detect the prescence of numerous respitory diseases, and illnesses.
