jumping vertical lines

by brazjol, Mar 10, 2008 02:39AM
I've noticed lately that when I am sitting at my computer at night with the lights off, looking at the LCD monitor, see some strange visual disturbances. I am not sure if these things are normal or not:

Sometimes it appears that there is a textured plastic sheet sitting/drifting across the monitor. This is rare, and I only notice it for a second or two when it happens. I think this could be a manifestation of my floaters or something?

Also, I've noticed that if I look at the screen (mostly when there is a white background) and move my head closer to the monitor, I see faint vertical lines in my central vision that become more apparent, converge, and then jump about before settling and disappearing (only noticed while in motion). This occurs again when moving my head back away from the monitor. Is this a normal occurrence when the eyes adjust on an LCD monitor, or due to the high contrast of the dark room and the bright monitor? Or is it some kind of ocular or neurological symptom that should be further checked out? Thanks a lot.
