Hi,
Thanks for the answer.
I suggest you seek a neurologic consult for a baseline assessment.
I would highly suspect migraine headaches in your case.Other differentials will also be a cervicogenic headache ( headaches due to a spine disorder), tension headaches, a hemicrania continua (which is relatively rare),occipital neuralgia.
Previous history of trauma to the head or neck may suggest a cervicogenic headache or occipital neuralgia.Hemicrania continua is a chronic headache that may present as short bursts of severe stabbing headaches.
A cranial CT scan may help.A complete ear and eye assessment may also be indicated. The diagnosis of migraine may only be given when all other possible conditions have been ruled out.
Sorry for the delay in responding. I was away from a computer for a while.
I'm not quite sure how the symptoms started. One day they just showed up and I haven't been able to connect why.
I don't think I would say they started abruptly. I don't think I really noticed it until after I had them for a while.
There really isn't anything I use to relieve the pain since it's usually so quick. I do, however, notice that rubbing my temple seems to help a bit.
They do occur several times a day when I get them. Mostly they are on my left side, in the temple and sometimes in the back of my head near my neck, but I have gotten them in other areas as well.
Thank you very much for your help.
Hi,
A sinus and eye problem have been ruled out. I just have a few questions:
How did your symptoms start?
Did this start abruptly?
Where there any activities or events that could have
triggered its onset?
Any predilection to a certain time of the year ( occurs in certain months )?
Also, you have noted that the pain lasts for a few seconds. Do they occur several times a day in clusters?
What relieves the pain?
Do keep us posted with your answers.
