Endometrioma and 'other' side effects

by happysnapper, Mar 11, 2008 04:22AM
Hi there

I've had pains caused from an endometrioma for about a year now (only found out it was an endometrioma a few weeks ago).  I'm wondering what other side effects this might have caused and whether these will resolve once it gets removed.  It's 14cm x 8.5cm x 12cm.

Is it possible that this might have caused any of the following:
- weight loss (I'm skinny anyway but now it's a real struggle to keep my weight stable)
- bloated stomach
- spotty skin
- i seem to be more hairy  :o(
- general fatigue
- a bit emotional

Will these things resolve themselves after it is removed?  Will I feel generally 'better'?  Apart from having post-op pain, and then hopefully no endometrioma pain, will i feel back to my old self again?

Thanks all!

have you had your thyroid levels checked?

Hi, I don't know about the spotty skin but the other things, yes.  It's pretty big and probably messing with your hormones.  A year is a long time to have that.  Has it grown?  Have they been monitoring it with vaginal ultrasounds?

Do you have a surgery date?  You will feel better and relieved after it's out.

Good luck.

Hi,
A large cyst like that is bound to cause problems. It pushes on other internal organs that are packed into the area pretty tightly. When is your surgery..? As stated above, Im sure your hormones are off balance right now. I would assume all these symptoms would resolve after surgery.
Good Luck and keep us posted

Do you have surgery scheduled to have it removed? I am assuming you have seen your gyn since they found it and gave you the size.  More than likely, most of those symptoms will resolve.  Let us know.

Thanks so much for your messages.  I'm glad I can hopefully tie these things down to it, and that I am not alone, or going a bit mad!

I don't have a surgery date yet, but hopefully it will be sometime in June.  I'm in the UK and therefore have the inadequacies of the National Health Service to contend with!

Cirella - no they haven't been monitoring it.  I only got a scan in Feb 08 despite complaining of pains since June 07!  No other scans since Feb.

Julietstar - no - I haven't had my thyroid checked - I am going to see my gyn today, so maybe I will speak to him about it....

Thanks again ladies :o)

Hi there

Get some painkillers from your doc - it will help a lot but you need to take them regularly as it take a while for the levels to build up in your body and start to work.

I am taking cocodamol and ibuprofen.  The only problem is that they make you tired and constipated (yay!).  It's like swapping one problem for another....
