Clonidine can be effective if used correctly. Once 20 years ago, a doc in a hospital in Ca. gave me a great clonidine detox inpatient. I was hooked on methadone and heroin so he gave me clonidine pills and put a patch on me plus gave me some attivan and darvon. It worked great and I was sleeping all  the time. He gradually awoke me after about 10 days and after 3 weeks I was off all detox meds. I tried to duplicate this later but it didn't work as well. No other docs do this a this guy was a recovering doc who tried something new. By itself one pill 2 times a day, I don't think clonidine is very effective and feels strange. When used in combo with other detox meds as a sleep cure, it works wonders. all the best.

It would be great to sleep through the whole detox..lol I agree the clonodine felt strange....But thank god i was home, the one thing i found it did for me was made my legs feel almost like they were spagetti, which was great, because my RLS would go away....I did keep checking my b/p though, because i have low blood pressure already..

Yes the B.P. needs to be checked and often while on catepres. When done right until medical supervision with a benzo and  maybe darvon, It's the best detox there is for serious narcotic withdrawl like heroin or methadone or in my case then, both. I don't think anyone does it inpatient because docs are too scared to drop your B.P. that low. I slept 8 hours a night and 8 hours a day and didn't suffer. all the best

Ive done a tone of research on clonidine and it has many uses it is a great drug for opiate withdrawl. I am taking this medication currently and loving it. I take 0.1mg every 12 hours at this point. I was taking it every 6 hours on days 2-4. The max dose for an average person is 0.2mg every 8 hours. I had this discusion with my MD today and as long as when you stand up you dont feel lightheaded and dizzy you sould be fine. clonadine for w/d should only be needed for the firts 10 days unless you are coming off of a long acting opiate like meth or sub then 14 days max. To reach max blood pressure benifits clonidine takes 14 -20 days to work so unless you have a native blood pressure that is very low  you should have no issues using it for a short period of time.
